INTERNATIONAL YOUTH MUSIC COMPETITIONS – IYMC

IYMC provides performance opportunities for musicians around the world through our monthly online competitions, our annual flagship gala performance event in New York City, and global recitals in cities around the world through our IYMC “Showcase” initiative.

We provide a forum for international musicians in all forms of music making, all disciplines, across all ages. IYMC, the Executive Officer, Executive Team and international jury serve internationally in multiple disciplines, instruments and ages. Aspiring performers and composers have found IYMC a platform for building their careers, networking with musicians, expanding their knowledge and abilities, and working towards expansion of student and teacher success.

The monthly online competitions have a strong educational focus with comments and feedback from the jury. Performance opportunity in-person through an annual Prize Winners’ Recital gives musicians opportunity for further musical development, recognition and career growth.

IYMC has served nearly 9000 musicians of all ages, amateur and professional, in over 100 countries. We continue to serve a wide range of instruments including keyboard, strings, percussion, brass, harps, traditional flutes, voice, electric guitar, tabla and tanpura, accordion, guqin, etc.

Our jury has heard solos, duos, ensembles, chamber, symphonic, choral, jazz combos, band and traditional groups; what a joy and an honor!

We continue to keep our focus on our goals of providing opportunity for all musicians of all levels, all instruments and all styles. We pride ourselves on providing excellent customer service and see our role as educational, supportive and enriching the lives of all our musicians and their families.

In addition to a strong classical foundation we strive to:

• Engage marginalized groups, disciplines and instruments
• Recognize informal, independent and creative music making
• Provide a platform for classical music studies ranging from hobbyists to career-bound classical musicians
• Encourage under-served disciplines such as music composition, jazz, improvisation and playing by ear
• Include cultural, ethnic and traditional musics through exchange and diversity
• Recognize national and traditional composers, instruments, compositions and performing traditions
• Feature non-traditional performing groups
• Foster cultural diversity, inclusion and diversity through music learning and performance
